Campsite: For your consideration

Nils Croné | 8 March, 2010 | 3:12 am

Just posted a topic on FXhome which has some insight into how Campsite was made - partly for promotional reasons, but mostly to help out! It’s a pretty long article, but you can check it out by clicking the link below! Among other things it includes the entire film’s screenplay, some visual effects breakdowns and much much more!

FXhome Topic: “Campsite: For your consideration”

Hope you like it! :)

About to watch the Oscars right now at the hotel in Thailand - due to the massive time difference it’s actually early in the morning here so I won’t have to stay up all night as usual to catch it! Speak more soon!

Stay tuned as I might create a new post and live-blog the Oscars :)

Around the world, Campsite, SpexArn, Exposed…

Nils Croné | 7 March, 2010 | 2:29 am

Hey everyone! Writing this from the other side of the world, in Hua Hin, Thailand! I’ve had a great vacation so far - the weather’s really amazing and it was great to get away from that freezing cold weather in Malmö for some time. It’s always interesting to visit another, completely different culture as well. Still planning to go see some thai boxing some day, as well as a tour out somewhere to see for example the elephant village. Staying here until Thursday, and while it’s a bit of a downer to go home it’s going to be a lot of fun to meet friends again! Also, have to see Alice in Wonderland once I get back - been listening to the pretty amazing soundtrack while here.

The Oscars is on Sunday evening! Which also means they’re broadcast here live on Monday morning, at half past eight, making them ideal to see :) Not sure what I think should win in any category, except of course Christoph Waltz for Best Supporting Actor.

The FXhome Awards 2010 are also coming up, and the nominations are currently underway! Planning to put together a topic on the forums for Campsite - hopefully I can get it nominated in some category - planning to market it for Best Cinematography or Best Special Effects! Will post more details here soon with a link to my topic, but until then, if you’re a member of FXhome, go over there and nominate Campsite! ;)

SpexArn is still on track for a late March release - the DVD begins printing late next week after a slight delay, which means it should be in everyone’s hands very shortly. The DVD print will be very limited - so make sure to reserve your copy (note that this is mainly open for people living in or near Malmö, Sweden as reservations are made locally at S:t Petri High School in Malmö)! If you’re not interested in the awesome special features or the spex show itself, the film will be released online soon as well.

Exposed is moving forward - I’ve written quite a bit of the screenplay now, and it’s turning out quite good if I say so, especially since it’s very different from what I’ve worked on before. Planning to set up that Facebook group for it soon, which will hold all the latest script and shooting information for the cast and crew. Also thinking about possibly shooting the first scene very soon - basically not for the entire film, but just as a test to see if I can pull off a dialouge-driven scene in Swedish without it feeling (too) awkward. Could be a good exercise to try out before tackling the entire film.

I’ve seen a few great films since I came to Thailand - among these Chopper and In the Name of the Father which were both - albeit very different from oneanother - fantastic character portrayals. Chopper is Eric Bana’s breakout role, in which he plays an Australian gangster. In the Name of the Father deals with the story of the Guildford Four - a very interesting, but horrific, story about government corruption and the imprisonment of innocent Irish people related to IRA bombings. If you haven’t seen them, they are truly fantastic films.

The FXhome film project, now titled Fracture, which I worked on during the summer of 2008 as a camera assistant, is nearing its premiere! It’s been quite a long time coming, but it looks really brilliant and the work put in to this film by everyone involved is just amazing. The film is set to premiere sometime in late April or early May - planning to go to the UK premiere, which will hopefully be filled with other FXhomers! See you there perhaps! ;) Check out the latest production diary from director Ashley Wing below, and see some of the amazing images from the film. As well as a picture of me wielding loads of guns. No comment.

That was pretty much all for this time. Check back soon for my thread on FXhome concerning nominating Campsite for the FXhome awards! Speak more soon, but until then, as always, take care!

Vacation time ahead!

Nils Croné | 25 February, 2010 | 11:24 pm

So SpexArn is now all finished and ready for its internet release in a month or so. Can’t wait to show it to everyone :) Also, the DVD sales will begin very soon - but first, I’m heading off to a two-week vacation in Thailand and (probably) Cambodia. It’s going to be a fun and exciting trip - it’s been quite some time since I’ve been further than London so can’t wait to see Asia - will bring my camera along to document the trip and hopefully shoot a bunch of interesting shots - will probably post some pictures from the trip here during my vacation ;) Yes, I am addicted to posting here, so much that I’ll even do it on vacation ;)

But speak more very soon, planning to go to bed now as I have pretty much a full day of traveling ahead of me! Take care everyone, and I’ll speak to you all very very soon!

Announcing “Exposed”!

Nils Croné | 15 February, 2010 | 12:09 pm

Exposed

Hot on the heels of SpexArn, pre-production has just begun on the new film from Redhawk Productions, Exposed. The first original film since Campsite, Exposed heads into a brand new type of film for the filmmaking company.

I have been working on this film for quite some time, around since SpexArn was first screened in December. The story and screenplay is rapidly approaching completion, and it’s been a fun experience to write my first film all in Swedish, while adjusting to a genre I basically have little or no experience with. Exposed is first and foremost a romantic mystery drama about a photographer, his friends, and his approach to the medium. After recently getting more and more of an interest in urban exploration - exploring abandoned areas to get good photographs, our photographer always strives for new challenges. But during just another photography tour, he uncovers a mystery that will change both him and the people around him…

The story is subject to change, I’ll just say that up front - I can’t wait to go into production on this film though, as it’s been a long time coming! Will start the casting process relatively soon - also trying to make this production much more open (or exposed, if you will) for you here on this website. While both Campsite and to some part SpexArn was a more closed and secretive production, I’ll try to gather some more behind-the-scenes stuff for you to see this time around. The film will also be much more of a collaborative effort, where everyone involved in the production have their say in how the film play out. Most of the crew, and probably some of the cast, from both Campsite and SpexArn will be back for this project, which is set to be my longest film so far in terms of shooting time. The film isn’t really focused on visual effects, so it shouldn’t be a year until you see it ;)

As it is right now, the film is set to start shooting late April/early May of this year, with a late summer premiere. While that is all I can tell you at the moment, check back in a few days for more…

Also, will be setting up a Facebook page for people who are interested in contributing to the production in any way, either in front of or behind the camera, but it’ll be a few days!

Can’t wait to start production on the film, it’s going to be loads of fun! :)

SpexArn updates
Also updated the SpexArn page to show the latest news concerning that project which has its internet premiere late March. The film, which has subtitles, is all ready for release following a small local DVD and Blu-Ray release, as I wrote a few posts back.

Speak much more very very soon! Take care everyone! :D

Another timelapse test for future project…

Nils Croné | 14 February, 2010 | 2:30 pm

So here is another one of those timelapse tests I’m currently busy doing! Planning to incorporate some timelapses in my next film project (which will be announced tomorrow!). Also note that it’s a bit shaky due to some tripod wobbling but I think it turned out pretty fun, even if it’s only a very short test with just some grading applied. And as always, some awesome music by in-house composer Nils Bülow! Uploaded it in 1080p so the image quality is pretty cool!

Shot with my new Canon 50D along with a Sigma 10-20/4-5.6 lens, with a picture taken every 150 second (or once every minute for the first part of the timelapse).

Speak more tomorrow, take care, and hope you have a great valentine’s day! :)

EDIT: Seems to be a small technical issue at the end of the clip, but it should be fine to watch for now - will update it later to fix it!

SpexArn DVD & Blu-Ray and future projects…

Nils Croné | 13 February, 2010 | 11:45 pm

It’s been a while, since late August last year actually, since production of my latest film began, and after shooting it in a week and doing post work on it for about 7 weeks the film premiered early December during the Petri spex show in Malmö. The whole show was shot multi-cam style with 3 cameras (thanks Johannes and Erik for the help!) and edited during the christmas break. Also worked on a very big bunch of special features for the film, namely a Behind-The-Scenes short, two DVD and Blu-Ray exclusive short films, ten minutes (!) of outtakes and loads of more stuff. Still have some menu work and debugging to do on the Blu-Ray version of the film, but the DVD is all done and ready for the duplication process, which means the film will be available for sale locally in about two weeks tops I’d say. It was incredibly relaxing albeit a bit weird to finish the film, as it is every time. This also means I have a better estimate on when the SpexArn internet release date will be, and for now an approximate release window is

LATE MARCH, 2010 (subject to change!)

As mentioned, this obviously depends heavily on the DVD sales but as a majority of people buy the DVD and Blu-Ray for the special features it shouldn’t be that big of a deal to release the film to the internet.

But one more thing! I’ve been writing on my next film project, set to go into production this spring, for a while now and it’s rapidly approaching 20 pages. Having some meetings with friends next week to brainstorm the script a bit - even though most of the story is pretty much thought out. But now that SpexArn is finished, I thought I’d head straight into announcing titles and again posting loads of stuff concerning the film’s production. It’s a pretty big departure from what I’ve done before, making it an even bigger challenge, but one that will be fun to try and figure out.

Check back THIS MONDAY (the 15th) for the first poster and the title for the film. I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

Take very good care everyone and happy valentine’s day tomorrow!

P.S. As I mentioned in my last post, some films are being upgraded to 1080p! Cell, for example, is now available in really high quality so go check out the film from 2006 right away. And yes, that makes me feel pretty old.
