So the script of my new short love story – which has replaced Exposed as my upcoming project – was finished a few days ago. Hoping to start production of this film sometime next week (first week of August). It’s a pretty short shoot, as I’m aiming to be able to shoot the film in just four or five days. While casting choices are still somewhat muddled and not ready yet, I’m hoping to be able to present the main roles for you in a matter of days. I’ve created a page for this, still untitled, Love Story, which will hopefully be shot and done in the next couple of weeks and then released in a few months.

Work on Short Film #21, which I’m working as 1st AD on, is really ramping up. From call sheets to planning and choosing extras, most of my days are filled with work with the project, which is getting closer and closer to being shot (production starts in just a little over two weeks). It’s a fun experience – I’ve had the chance to involve some of my friends involved with photography as well as Martin Wikner (the director of the werewolf movie Fatale, which I worked as DoP on) for behind-the-scenes stuff. Can’t wait to start production on the project. Make sure you go over to the film’s fan page on Facebook and sign up for all the latest updates! Also, embedded below is a short behind-the-scenes look at a graffiti wall which was designed to promote the project – it’s shot by previously mentioned Martin Wikner, and it’s a fun and relaxed look at the project. Will be fun to see what he comes up with as production moves closer.

In other news, planning has also started on future projects I will direct later this fall – having a small meeting in a couple of hours with the team behind it so we can discuss certain aspects of it. Can’t tell you what it is though, just yet.

In related news, SpexArn is about to be released in its international version on the website (that was sort of transparent, wasn’t it? ;) ) It’s taken a bit longer than I had thought – what will be released is basically a brand new cut of the film. The film will be shorter than what premiered about seven months ago, but I think it’ll work better for an international audience. Also, it will include some deleted scenes which we weren’t able to include in its original release. Hoping to have more news concerning this very shortly – just doing some final touches on graphics and subtitles as we speak.

Halloween might mean another small short film….been toying with ideas around viral marketing with some bigger producers, and I think we have a pretty good clue what we’ll be working on if it gets to that point. Stay tuned in the blogosphere world for more information.

Site reboot might come shortly. Working on a new, more professional look for the website which will focus more on film, and less on blogging. Not sure if this is something we will be moving ahead with though. In any way, I still need to set some more social network connectivity here, which is something you should see more of in the coming months.

More updates as soon as I have them! Take care everyone!

So, big news today. But before we move into those, let’s just grab a quick look at the new poster for the werewolf movie by Martin Wikner I was involved in as a DP and Visual Effects supervisor a few months back. The film is moving closer and closer to its release later this summer, and a Facebook fan page for the film has just been set up. Go over there right away and stay tuned to the latest news concerning that film.

But, to the bigger news. I have, along with Johannes and Fredrik, decided to delay the big summer project Exposed. In the state the production is at the moment, we thought it’d be a much better idea to go easy on the project for a while. We’re all very happy with how the final shooting script turned out, but as it stands right now a 15-day shoot is too much to handle. With our experience shooting films using film lenses with the Redrock Adapter being quite limited, as well as some of our actors not set in stone for the final project with a week left before production was supposed to start, the final product would not be one we would be entirely satisfied with. The film will of course still be made – currently aiming to start filming it later this autumn instead for an early 2011 release, but the summer is, as it stands, too busy and a bit ill-scheduled for the production to start on the film at this stage.

What we’re aiming for instead, is shoot a much smaller love story, currently set at around 10-15 minutes. Employing 4 or 5 shooting days instead of almost three weeks allows us to both shoot the film more quickly, while still being able to focus on giving the film high production values. The film consists of pretty much three scenes, and we’re aiming to shoot it in the last week of July. Planning to have most of the script done by early next week, with casting and discussions/location scouts to start towards the end of next week. Aiming for a 15-minute format could also be a good way to make it available for several local film festivals, and is also a much better format for an audience mostly focused around the internet. The film should also be able to act as a springboard for talent for Exposed, considering it will most probably be focused around the same themes. The film will of course, as always, still be distributed free on the website. Expect more information about this project to arrive shortly, as well as a page for the film. As the decision is still pretty new, we’re still working out the final synopsis for the new project.

Delaying Exposed has been a very, very difficult decision. Planning for the film started as early as February of this year, but it should not be in vain, at all. The script is still done and shootable, what we need to wait for is a better opportunity to be able to make the film we want to, without having to compromise as much.

We’re still going strong though! SpexArn is on it’s way to the internet, with just a few weeks until the international version is released worldwide.

Stay tuned everyone, and more info concerning this next drama project should be available right after the upcoming weekend, at the latest.

Just came back from a small kick-off party for Short Film #21, the next film from director Csaba Bene Perlenberg which I’m working as 1st Assistant Director on. Was a very fun time and got to chat with a lot of great people, including both team members and fans of the project. Fun to have two projects rolling at once, as they’re quite different from eachother. Thanks everyone that showed up this evening! I look pretty tired in the image below. No comment.

So here is another update! It’s been almost a month, and a hectic one at that. Summer has officially started, with my studies in film theory finished and loads of new things going on around my life. So why no updates? Has the production of Exposed halted in some fashion?

Oh no. Not at all! Casting is basically finished, and I’ll introduce you to some of the new (and familiar) faces among the cast. It’s been a fun last couple of weeks – the screenplay is all done and finished, was out with Fredrik the other day and snapped some location photos, and most of the planning for the big two-week shoot is rapidly approaching completion. As it stands right now, we’re aiming to start filming the second week of July with a few smaller, yet quite personal, scenes. It’ll be fun to see the script finally come to life after months of work. Also, it’s a pretty big challenge as it’s way different from anything I’ve done before. Seriously cannot wait to get started on the project!

Also planning to revamp the website slightly this summer, to focus more on the production aspects and the company as a whole instead of it being so blog-focused, which it is at the moment. Don’t worry, the news posts and blog updates won’t go away at all – consider it more of a shift in focus. More updates on that as they come.

Can’t wait to tell you about some of the actors and actresses who are acting in the film – starting that process probably next week after some initial meetings and rehearsals are done.

The wheels of filmmaking are definitely in motion, and it feels fantastic. Hope you all have had a great start to the summer so far – updates will increase now that production moves closer and closer…

Also I’ll be studying at Skurups Folkhögskola the next year at least. I got accepted to both Skurup and Kulturama in Stockholm, but as it stands right now, several things (related among others to finding a place to stay in Stockholm and spend time with friends and family) have led me to choose to spend my next studying year in Skurup. I won’t be moving there though.

Take care everyone and I’ll speak to you very soon (it won’t be a month until my next update!) ;)

May 2010 13

Finished my screenplay for my next and first swedish drama film Exposed just a few days ago – it’s called Exponerad in Swedish, which is just a Swedish translation of the film’s title and the film’s “real” title. It’s been a while, with nearly 4 months of writing! Was quite happy how it turned out, and at 45 pages it’s by far the longest work I’ve done to date, and the final film will probably be close to 50 minutes. What lies ahead? Well, next up is a bit of fine-tuning the script, and hopefully the final shooting screenplay will be done in about two weeks. Starting with casting the upcoming weekend – already have a few ideas for who I want cast. No names to say yet, will have to make sure they’re actually interested first.

But anyway, it’s a pretty big step for my next original film! Planning as it stands right now is to start shooting the film late June to mid-July, and then be able to release it sometime this autumn.

The interview at Kulturama last week went pretty great, I think. Will still have to consider which school I’ll choose if I get accepted to any of them – I’m leaning partly towards Skurups Folkhögskola right now due to most of my friends and all of my film industry contacts being in Skåne. But time will tell.

Stay tuned for more updates on Exposed!

Take care everyone!
