Was just let know that 21, the latest film by Csaba Bene Perlenberg, which I also worked as 1st AD on last year, has just won two awards at The Clearwater Film & Music Festival in Florida for “Best Short Film” and “Best Director”. Big congrats!
And so, just like that, another month has gone by and it’s time for yet another update. Since I last wrote here I’ve been involved in a fair amount of exciting film work, with everything from commercials to short and local longer films.
I have recently started working at Smartfilm, a local film production company. It’s set out as work practice for my studies over at Skurups Folkhögskola, but have evolved into more of a steady position as 1st Assistant Camera and Colourist. I’m currently working here throughout September and October of this year, and possibly beyond that. So I have loads of stuff to do, and get to work on a big variety of projects – which is really awesome! So in this news post I’ll try to compress what I’ve been working on the last month, and also what is ahead in the upcoming weeks and months.
First of all, the first rough edit of my new film “TiD” is completed. It’s looking quite good, and it’s going to be nice to dive deeper into the project, probably closer to the end of the year for an early 2012 release. It’s nice to see it all come together, and to be reminded of the great time we had in production, as well as all the awesome people who helped out during the project. Once I get back to Skurup I think I’ll be able to work more on the film, as well as start some sound design discussions with Joel Rayner.
Before starting work at Smartfilm, I was involved in a lovely project for two weeks for a pilot for a new feature film by Maciej Kalymon, produced by Imperium Film. I worked as 1st Assistant Camera on the project, and we shot during a busy week in central Malmö with a really cool cast and crew. We shot some really long takes – it’s interesting to see different direction styles and this was a great and fun challenge. Having a fully specced out Red One camera on your shoulder for 15 minutes straight is pretty taxing, to say the least… I hope to be able to give you some more insight into the project sometime in the near-ish future.
I’ve worked and been involved in a few other projects as executive producer as well – more details on those when they approach completion. In the upcoming weeks I’ll have some more exciting details concerning some films which you may be able to see online sooner than you might think…
