Went out to Västra Hamnen in Malmö today with Fredrik Steffen and Erik Hogeman to try out my new Redrock M2 Encore rig for the first time. While it was shot on a way too small tripod for the camera some of the footage turned out pretty fun so I decided to edit it together so you could take a look at it. Lenses used were the Sigma 10-20/4-5.6 EX DC as well as the Canon 85/1.8 USM, both with a Canon EF mount. Check it out below and please let me know what you think by leaving a comment
Can’t wait to go outside and shoot a real film using the new gear but as a two-minute, quickly edited together piece I’m quite satisfied with how it turned out!
Check out the short film/music video right below. Music is as always by the awesome Nils Bülow!
And yes, I should probably start to try and organize all the test videos I’m shooting – should get on that right after Christmas break – but until then, check out the first, second and third Redrock tests right here (shot using the older version of the Redrock system though).
Until next time, take care everyone!
So now that both the 24th of December (the Christmas celebration day here in Sweden) and the 25th is drawing to a close here in Sweden I thought I’d wish you all a very merry Christmas! It’s been a great weekend so far on the countryside – just ordered my tripod for the Redrock M2 rig which should arrive sometime next week! Also going back to the city on Monday to hang out with friends and hopefully if the weather allows it I’ll be heading of to Västra Hamnen in Malmö with Fredrik to try out both my camera rig as well as Fredrik’s recently bought Nikon D300. Might shoot a small short film with some kind of narrative – sort of a one-minute story. Nevertheless as mentioned, if the weather allows it I’ll be both shooting some material and posting it here on the website! But speak more very soon, now heading off to stuff myself with sweets and other unhealthy (= good) stuff and continuing to watch Inglourious Basterds.
Take care everyone and speak to you all very very soon!
So here I am, two days after SpexArn was shown on Saturday evening to an audience totalling over 700 people! The reception of both the film and the comedy show was amazing – loads of people came up and told me that they thought the film was really quite good, which is always absolutely awesome to hear, thanks everyone! =D
Work now continues on the DVD and Blu-Ray release of SpexArn, which should be available sometime mid-January on a built-to-order basis, meaning the discs are ordered and then created (this to minimize any excessive cost in printing up a large stock of DVDs). We have loads of fun behind-the-scenes material as well as a whole lot of deleted and extended scenes, and it’s going to be a blast to put it all together! Will post some more pictures from the making-of that as well as the spex comedy show very soon.
But before work starts on that, I have some pretty exciting stuff I will be working on tomorrow morning. Will head on over to S:t Petri high school to shoot a seminar with one of the Nobel prize winners in chemistry for the school and also some science groups here in Sweden who are going to use it for publicity and archiving purposes. It’s my biggest job in terms of scale and importance so far, which is a bit nerve-racking but hopefully I’ll be able to pull myself together til’ tomorrow. Going to go at it in a quite extreme manner as I’ll be shooting it live with 3 cameras – the main angle will be shot using the Redrock M2e kit, and I will have a borrowed XL1s as well as an XL2 for audience reactions as well as just back-up footage in case anything goes horribly wrong. But I’m off to bed now to rest up and be alert to tomorrow’s very exciting shoot. Wish me luck!
Speak more soon and take care everyone!
So the day is finally here after months and months of hard work! My new film SpexArn premieres later today, at 19:00 (GMT +1) at S:t Petri high school where it will be shown to a pretty big audience in front of the comedy show – which me and crew member Johannes will shoot live on Saturday! Can’t wait to see and hear what people think of the film – so far the response has been very positive, but it will be interesting to see what people from outside the school think of it. Just to clarify, the film doesn’t premiere on the internet today unfortunately. At first it will be shown later this evening, then again tomorrow evening – the DVD and Blu-Ray of both the film and the show will then be created and sold throughout January in a quite limited number. After which, the film should premiere online for everyone to see late February.
I know I said I’d write up a small behind-the-scenes thingy and post it during the week – as you may have noticed, I didn’t. I did write the piece together, but then I thought it’d probably be smarter to post it after it’s shown today and on Saturday, so I won’t spoil the film for anyone seeing it.
Spent most of yesterday helping with rigging stuff for the show – compared to last year and Spex and the City when our gathering hall at the school wasn’t available. So instead of spending money on renting a large auditorium everything was spent on trying to make it a really cool experience in terms of sound and light. I took some photos of the rigging process and some behind-the-scenes stuff yesterday (and yes, it’s shot with my iPhone so the quality is not really that great).
Some better photos should be up after the show has been shot on Saturday – will also film some interviews before Saturday’s show – Johannes talked about possibly shooting some sort of timelapse using his DSLR during the show – it would be awesome, just have to check that it isn’t too distracting. If it turns out fine – which is probably will – I’ll be sure to post it here!
Oh, and my Redrock M2 Encore 35mm adapter arrived on Wednesday which means I’m now able to use my stills lenses when shooting video, which creates a really great look as you’ve seen in my test videos before. This new model is even brighter and has just half a stop of light loss, so can’t wait to just go out on the streets of Malmö and film stuff! Probably after SpexArn, though
. I took some photos of the final rig including the FollowFocus and LiveLens adapter also from Redrock – but I thought I’d take some pics with my DSLR later instead so it won’t look as crappy.
Quite excited about showing SpexArn later today, as you may have noticed. Managed to burn the film in 1080p on Blu-Ray and will show it from a PS3 and Full HD projector – along with the amazing sound system provided by the awesome crew from Highway it should turn out really cool. Well, got to get back to packing down all my gear and preparing for the upcoming premiere as well as the 3-camera shoot tomorrow!
Take care everyone and hopefully I’ll see you either tomorrow evening or later today
P.S. We still have a tiny tiny amount of tickets left which will be sold at the entrance at S:t Petri high school later this evening! Remember to be there early and on time to get the best seats – the doors open at 18:30, half-an-hour before the show starts!
Shot my first timelapse using my Canon 400d from my bedroom window last night during two hours. It turned out pretty cool, so I added some music by crew member Nils Bülow and uploaded it so you can have a look!
Will probably do a longer shoot very soon, preferably one through the night displaying various subjects – only problem is the battery life of my DSLR which ran out yesterday in about two hours (hence the short film) – although by setting the intervals to around a minute, instead of 15 seconds as in the above video, logically the battery life should increase a lot.
The prescreening of SpexArn went great, had quite a lot of people coming up to me afterwards saying they liked it – less than a week until its official premiere and I can’t wait!
Speak more soon, and take care!
UPDATE: Had some audio issues in the above timelapse clip which have now been corrected.
