Some updates today…

Nils Croné | 29 April, 2007 | 9:11 pm

Since school is (yes, again) massive overkill I didn’t have time to finish the last, epic part of the New York Video Diaries. Although, I did have the time to upload a new version of the Zurich Video Diary. I uploaded a cool HD version of it, so now you can watch the whole diary again if you want to on your 60″ flatscreen monitor. Or you could watch it on your computer… :P

Coming up this week is probably not the next New York video diary, since I have a lot of tests in school this week. Although what will come up later is another pretty cool thing: It’s the original cut of “Cell”. Since we actually shot it two times, I decided to edit together the first shoot, since it’s pretty funky to see how we used some shots from the first day into the complete re-shoot the second day. Anyway, I’ve graded it, added sound fx, so it’s basically just like “Cell: Alternate Edition” or something. I won’t name it “director’s cut” since I edited both versions and I like the real version better, the one available at the website right now. Well, keep your eyes peeled on the website for that movie. Will write a longer post tomorrow about some movies I recently saw, including “Sunshine” which I got around to watch in the cinema earlier today. I also fixed some minor stuff today with the website, to improve loading times on movies and pages (should now be improved by about 180-190% to visitors outside Sweden).

Until then, take care everybody!

NY Video Diaries - Part 4 now available!

Nils Croné | 22 April, 2007 | 12:02 pm
Well, part 4 of my New York Video diaries is finally completed and up on the website. It’s been really hard to edit this together, mostly because of the lack of footage. I shot various stuff, and almost a whole hour of footage for this day, but most of it was just walking down the street doing nothing special. So I decided to only include the more interesting stuff, such as really weird halloween costumes (yeah, halloween was that day) and a store that only sold garbage. So it’s not really as long as some of the other parts, clocking in at roughly six minutes. Well, anyway, hopefully you’ll like it! Oh, and next week, I will combine the final 2 parts into one big epic one, which will also be the final one.

In the upcoming week there will also be loads of other cool, new stuff. More on that later, I want to keep it a surprise!

Bring the noise!

Nils Croné | 19 April, 2007 | 10:13 pm

Hi, just working right now on the New York Video Diary, and things are looking really good for the diary being available here on the website late Sunday. Yes, I know, it got delayed again. But school is killing me at the moment, with loads of stuff to do (such as homework) even after I’ve finished school in the afternoon. I’ve also started to put together another scene for Showdown which I shot last sunday with Alexander. It was a lot of fun to shoot the scene, and Alex seemed to be really glad for his role, and did a pretty astounding performance, compared to the work he’s done before in my movies (Weird Gunfight..*cough* *cough*).

Almost the whole cast list is now finished, just got a few more roles to fill, and then we can start to film the bigger scenes! The casting announcement which I talked about a week ago will go up later this week probably, or early next week. I still have to finalize the names of the characters, since almost no names are completed. It’s actually really, really hard to think of a name that sounds believable for the character and not über-cheesy. So I want to at least finish the names for the movie before I put up any big announcement on who’s going to play who.

So, tomorrow I have a pretty big English essay I’m going to write early in the morning. It will hopefully go just fine, but hopefully the subject we’re writing about (yes, we do not get to choose our own) is interesting. I remember writing a swedish essay against pirated movies, and scoring a very high grade on that. Well, wish me luck! :)

Oh, and you seriously need to see “Hot Fuzz“. It’s a fantastic British cop comedy (probably one of the best movies this year) from the same guys who made “Shaun of the Dead“, one of the best romantic comedy horror film I have ever seen (actually, that’s a pretty big category, which I rank really high since I think a movie is really well made when it manages to combine two or more different genres, and pull it off perfectly). I feel like getting some new DVDs soon (no new Blu-Rays at the moment, since they’re bloody expensive). Still looking for Scorceses’ Casino or Rain Man with Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman. They both look like great movies, but I still havn’t found a retail store that sells them. Surely I could just order them from a website, but always when I think of doing that I never get around to it because…well, I don’t know, I just want the movie to be delievered immediately! Yeah, I am pretty impatient ;).

And keep your eyes peeled on the website tomorrow or on Saturday for my Zürich video diary in 720p HD. I just have to compress it in a good format, and it’s going up on the website. I will of course, write a news topic when it hits the website, so don’t worry, you won’t miss it’s arrival.

But now I really have to go to sleep, since it’s getting late, and I’ve been running around all afternoon doing errands and stuff. Well, take care everybody, c ya all later!

“Apple pies? My favorite!”

Nils Croné | 12 April, 2007 | 10:05 pm

Hey, so I just wanted to update you on what’s currently going on in my life, and what’s going on with future projects.

So school is actually a bit calmer than it was before easter break, which is nice. No tests this week, and I’m not sure if there is any test next week, I think there’s a math one though. A lot of the subjects seem to be easier in some way, don’t really know how to describe it, but anyway it’s cool. We watched “Chicken Run” today in English class, which is an awesome movie. Great humour, great animation and a pretty moving story actually. Some of my dry classmates insisted on not seeing through the fact that every character is made out of clay, which I found a bit odd. Anyway, the movie is by the creators of the Wallace & Gromit TV episodes, and the recently released “Were-Rabbit” movie. If you havn’t seen it yet, go rent or buy it, you should be able to find it in some lowbudget corner in your local video store.

Since I got my PS3 a few weeks ago, I’ve now got some Blu-Ray movies. The video and sound quality is astounding, but it’s still too expensive for me to give up the “old” DVD format. I calculated a bit and figured out that you can buy about 3 or 4 times as much DVD movies for every Blu-Ray movie. But, if you’ve got the cash (which I havn’t got at the moment :P) go for Blu-Ray or HD-DVD, it’s really good. I havn’t seen many HD-DVD movies yet, I know that Johannes has the external player for Xbox 360, but I’ve only seen Syriana on it yet. I think he’s got 3 or 4 more movies now though. Will have to go there sometime and see them :). I’ve yet to see any real difference between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, I think they are just as good (yes, even if HD-DVD is better at interactivity at the moment). A favorite “next-gen moment” was when I saw Syriana on HD-DVD at Johannes’ house, and you could choose an audio track for blind people. So there would be this narrating voice throughout the movie explaining and commenting everything that is going on in the movie. So you get narration like “The man is leaving the restaurant.”

So I finished editing on scene 1 and 2 for Showdown earlier today, and I’ve sent it round to some persons, and got generally good comments. Still, it’s a bit weird to see the scenes so unfinished, since both of them is going to look completely different than how we shot it. Will probably have some cast announcements sometime soon, since we’re at the moment getting all the different roles together. There are a few roles left, but I’ve got a few good ideas of good actors and friends who are good in the roles. Yeah, friends will probably be acting in most of the roles, since we’re making the movie almost without any kind of budget. The script is soon done, and it should be all done and completed in about a month. I think it has so far become really a lot better than anything I’ve done before, with some interesting characters, and plot twists. The first two persons to read my script will probably be Johannes and Nils B, on our trip to Gothenburg we make every year after school. Will probably bring a digital camera this year and take some photos, and then upload them to Flickr. Can’t promise anything yet though, but it would be great to bring something to show you all.

One really cool things that happened to me was the fact that I signed the contract for FXhome.com, which in a way makes me a semi-employee of the company. I now get exciting secret information that I can’t tell anyone else about, which is nice *evil laugh*.

So keep tuned on here on the website for more info about the cast of Showdown, since most of them will be announced in a couple of days.

Take care everybody!

Zürich Video Diary now available!

Nils Croné | | 4:48 pm

Some of you might have been aware of that about two weeks ago I went to Zürich in Switzerland to see the world premiere of the FXhome movie NightCast, and meet all the people from FXhome, which I’ve been chatting with for over 4 years now. Anyway, I made a small video diary, which is available in the movie section. The movie is probably not that interesting to any non-FXhomers, but it’s pretty fun if you know who all the people are.

Stay tuned later today for a long news post about a lot of stuff!
